I love community service and am happy to volunteer my services at the local food bank.

Our Lemon Blueberry Scone, because just like it is a perfect blend of wild blueberries, lemon filling, and white chocolate chips, I’m a great blend of positivity, compassion, ambition, and sweetness!

Meet Sara, Your New Local Bakery Owner in London, Ontario 

We are so happy to introduce the proud owner of our newest bakery in London, Ontario. Sara is a passionate and community focused leader. Sara also owns the London North West bakery and we are so excited to have her open her second bakery. Keep reading to learn a little more about Sara, what led her to this journey, and how she plans on giving back to the community!    

What did you do before becoming a COBS Bread bakery owner? 

I first started my journey with COBS when I was attending university in Vancouver, BC, as a Sales Assistant and later developed into a Sales Manager. I then won the Lesley Gillespie award for sales in 2017. After deciding that opening a COBS is something I wanted to pursue as a career, I moved back to Ontario to experience what a new bakery opening was like in Waterdown. I have now been an operator for 4 years! 

What is your favorite thing about being part of the COBS Bread network? 

I love connecting and collaborating with people. We have a network of such diverse individuals who bring so much expertise from their previous careers. It is also amazing to be a part of something that is loved by Canadians coast to coast.  

What led you to open your second bakery?  

The London community has been incredibly supportive, and it has been an honor to serve them over the past 4 years. I truly love what I do, and it makes me excited to bring COBS to other areas of our community. I want to delight our customers, inspire my team, and show more Londoners what makes our bakeries so special.  

What are you looking forward to the most about your new bakery?  

We are looking forward to meeting 25 new team members, connecting with our customers and partnering with more organizations. After all the customer feedback, we are looking forward to finally bringing COBS to the south of London. I know it has been a long time and we are so thankful for your patience!  

What is your recipe for success?  

My focus when it comes to my business is my team and creating a workplace culture that is unmatched. People have always been my priority, ensuring that they always feel supported, appreciated and heard. Our team operates based on values, and believes in care, collaboration, and continuous growth which we embody in everything we do. This then translates to our customers having an incredible experience when they visit!   

How are you planning on getting involved in the community?  

Getting involved in the community is incredibly important to me!  I’m excited that we can add another 7 new organizations to our End of Day Giving program, to be able to support even more individuals in the community who are facing food insecurity.  

If you were a treat or loaf from COBS Bread, which one would you be and why? 

I would be a French Baguette… authentic, versatile, and pairs well with cheese.

Meet Sukant, Your New Local Bakery Owner in Calgary, Alberta 

We are so happy to introduce Sukant, the proud owner of our newest bakery located in Calgary, Alberta. Sukant is passionate, community focused and a real go-getter. He is the perfect addition to our COBS Bread family and we are so excited to have him on our team. Keep reading to learn a little more about Sukant, what led him to this journey and how he plans on giving back to the community!  

What did you do before becoming a COBS Bread bakery owner? 

Before joining COBS bread, my journey in the culinary world was shaped by diverse experiences. This includes working as a chef in renowned establishments in India, Dubai, London and Canada.  

I have achieved significant achievements in my culinary journey. In 2012, I achieved the Certified Chef de Cuisine designation, the highest recognition in Canada for chefs. This designation opened doors for me to contribute to the culinary community, as well as showcase my skills on Food Network Canada’s Fire Masters. 

In 2022 and 2023, I had the honour of serving as a judge for the Skills Canada Culinary Competitions. This role reflects my dedication to fostering talents and upholding industry standards.  

Additionally, I have been on the advisory committee for NAIT’s culinary program, while continuing being a member of the Canadian Culinary Federation, which allows me to contribute to the education and development of aspiring chefs.  

When did you join the COBS Bread family? Why did you decide to go with COBS Bread? 

I became a proud member of the COBS Bread family in July 2023. Thank you to my chef-friend, Bishwa Pati, a COBS Bread multi-site franchisee, who first introduced me to the brand back in 2017.  

Bread to me is beautifully crafted, so pure and deserving of love. COBS Bread’s commitment to the craft, community engagement and its unique approach to empowering bakery owners aligns perfectly with my values and aspirations.  

Furthermore, the possibility of being closer to my family and achieving a work-life balance combined with COBS Bread’s receiving the Franchisee’s Choice Award of Excellence for twelve consecutive years, convinced me to take on the journey of being a COBS Bread franchisee.  

What are you looking forward to about your new bakery? 

Creating a welcome space for the community to enjoy the warmth of freshly baked artisan breads and treats is a genuine pleasure. I am excited to bring the rich flavours and techniques that I have learned during my 16-weeks of comprehensive training to my new bakery.  

Additionally, I am eager to create jobs and offer employment opportunities to the community, while contributing to the training and development of aspiring cooks and bakers.  

Before joining COBS Bread, were you much of a baker? 

While I was previously a chef, joining COBS Bread provided me with the opportunity to dig deeper into the art of baking, particularly mastering the intricate process of crafting artisanal Sourdoughs, French Baguettes and more.  

How are you planning on getting involved in the community?  

My commitment to the community engagement extends beyond the bakery. I plan to collaborate with local businesses, host baking workshops, as well as support local events.  

What charity are you partnering with for Community Day? 

Our bakery is proud to partner with ” Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids,” an organization dedicated to ensuring no child in our community goes hungry. By supporting this initiative on Community Day, we aim to contribute to their mission of providing nutritious lunches for school children, while fostering a healthier future for our young neighbourhood. 

If you were a treat or loaf from COBS Bread, which one would you be and why?  

If I were a COBS Bread treat, I would be the Cinnamon Loaf – a perfect blend of warmth, sweetness, and a touch of spice. Similar to this loaf, I aim to bring comfort and joy to everyone who walks through the doors of our bakery.

What did you do before becoming a COBS Bread bakery owner? 

Before becoming a COBS Bread bakery owner, I was in many different industries, such as food & beverage, finance, health & wellness, banking and auditing.  

When did you join the COBS Bread family? Why did you decide to go with COBS Bread? 

I explored many different franchises, but I decided to go with COBS Bread because you simply cannot disrupt bread. Bread is very human, and town tested. I have always been a foodie, so I have a high faith in bread!  

What are you looking forward to about your new bakery? 

I am excited to get in my bakery, meet my customers and develop my team. It is a dream to have the opportunity to build a team and a culture from the ground up!  

Before joining COBS Bread, were you much of a baker? 

I love to cook – the closest hobby I have is barbeque. I love turning cheap things into something delicious!  

How are you planning on getting involved in the community?  

The community has a lot to offer, I want to get involved in supporting after school programs, big brothers and day cares.  

If you were a treat or loaf from COBS Bread, which one would you be and why?  

The Sourdough, I love the Sourdough!  

What’s in your favourite sandwich? 

The more in the sandwich, the better. I love adding brie and tomatoes in my sandwiches.

Bakery chain from Canada and AUS sets sights on US Expansion

December 6, 2023 (Merrick, NY) – COBS Bread will be opening its third US bakery in Merrick, NY on Monday, December 11. This will be one of the first of many in Long Island, with the next opening following fast before the end of January 2024 in Oceanside. COBS Bread is known locally in Stamford and Greenwich, CT for baking fresh bread and treats every day with high-quality ingredients and no preservatives. At the end of the day, leftover product is donated to local charities.

All of the bread at COBS Bread bakeries is baked from scratch every day and also specializes in an assortment of artisanal pastries, rolls, and savory treats. The first US bakery opened in 2015 at High Ridge Centre in Stamford. The location in Greenwich at Riverside Lane is franchised by a local owner, and COBS Bread will be looking to franchise its locations in the US in the near future.

“The community in Connecticut has really embraced our bakeries,” says Karen Frost-Spokes, VP of COBS Bread USA. “We’re very excited to be opening in Merrick and throughout Long Island and becoming a part of the community here.”

The Merrick bakery has already made connections with local charities Island Harvest, Food Rescue – Mission of Nassau County, and Faith Mission Food Pantry who will be picking up leftover product at the end of the day. “End of Day Giving is a cornerstone of our brand,” says Frost-Spokes. “We’re proud of having a business model with giving baked right in.”

Shortly after the Merrick opening, more COBS Bread locations will be opening in the region with the next one opening before the end of the year in Compo, CT. This is in addition to the aforementioned bakery Oceanside in Long Island opening late Jan/early Feb.

The Merrick bakery is located at 2013 Merrick Road and will be open from 7am to 7pm from Monday to Friday and Saturday and Sunday from 7am-6pm.

COBS Bread Opening in Kitchener – Just In Time For Holidays

December 14, 2018 (Kitchener, ON) –  COBS Bread will be opening Monday, Dec 17th at Fairway Plaza in Kitchener, just in time for the holidays.

This is the first COBS Bread bakery in Kitchener, but will be Ontario’s 25th COBS Bread bakery. The bakery will be owned and operated by local Steff Steers, also the owner of the COBS Bread bakery at The Boardwalk in Waterloo. “The community has really embraced our bakery and the fresh product we bake, and the delightful service we provide. I knew as soon as I opened the first one that I wanted to open a second!” Steers opened the location at The Boardwalk in July of 2017.

Owners of all COBS Bread bakeries are also actively involved in their local communities which is a cornerstone of the COBS Bread brand. All products are baked fresh daily on site and unsold product is donated to local charities at the end of the day. It is well-known for its range of traditional and artisan breads, as well as sweet and savory treats such as scones, croissants and danishes.

COBS Bread Raises $10,000 for Milton District Hospital Foundation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 21, 2018 (Milton, ON) – COBS Bread Willmott Marketplace raised $10,000 for the Milton District Hospital Foundation on the bakery’s “Community Day,” last Wednesday, November 14th. All sales from that day were donated, and the $10,000 total included additional donations made by customers and the bakery owner, Adil Hanif.

“I’m thrilled that the community came together to support the Milton District Hospital Foundation. The MDHF plays an integral role in improving the lives of countless Miltonians and I’m fortunate that I am in a position to help contribute to their mission,” says Hanif.

“We are exceptionally grateful for the generosity of Cob’s Bread and the Milton community for supporting Community Day! This donation is a great investment in our community and will allow the hospital to acquire essential pieces of medical equipment. We’re thrilled to welcome Cobs to town,” says Lindsay Robertson, Board Member, Milton District Hospital Foundation.

COBS Bread Opening in Milton First day of sales will be donated to Milton District Hospital Foundation

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 4, 2018 (Milton, ON) – COBS Bread will be opening Wednesday, November 14th for Community Day at Willmott Marketplace in Milton, ON. All sales from the day will be donated to the Milton District Hospital Foundation.

This is the first COBS Bread bakery in Milton, but will be Ontario’s 23rd COBS Bread bakery. The bakery will be owned and operated by local Adil Hanif. “Every COBS Bread bakery opens with Community Day, and I really believe it’s a fantastic way to say, ‘thanks,’ right off the bat to our new neighbours and community,” says Hanif.

The bakery will also host a Grand Opening ceremony on Friday, November 16th, which will be attended by Mayor Gordon Krantz in addition to other dignitaries from the community.

Owners of all COBS Bread bakeries are also actively involved in their local communities which is a cornerstone of the COBS Bread brand. All products are baked fresh daily on site and unsold product is donated to local charities at the end of the day. It is well-known for its range of traditional and artisan breads, as well as sweet and savory treats such as scones, croissants and danishes.
